Fishing Report (and a "Camping Report")
The fishing seems to have recovered from 2 days of thunderstorms. The weather was beautiful today and we heard of some fish caught.
Our main photo was sent to us by Jeff, who got this fish out on Island Beach State Park on his last cast with his last clam. He reported seeing a couple other fish caught too. We have fresh bunker and salted clams for those going out to try their luck.
We heard of smaller bluefish being cooperative in the area too. Stories ranged from bluefish (and the occasional small bass) taking poppers on the bayside flats, to bluefish in the inlet hitting surface plugs, SPs and jigs in the inlet, to blues in the surf on surface plugs and SP Minnows.
The fluke fishing has been steady, with the usual spots in the bay producing fluke, though you do have to get through a lot of shorts to get a keeper. Fluke are also feeding in the surf, and some of the boats venturing out into the ocean are starting to report hungry fluke. Jigs and Gulp! are, as always, the best bet for fluke.
We hear Black Sea Bass fishing remains good. Clams, squid strips, and ava jigs have been working.
In the shop, it was day number one of the inmates running the asylum. So far, the building has not burned down, nor has any other calamitous events taken place. There are, however, a couple of days yet to go.
We have heard Ray & Sean’s Grand Camping Adventure of Fun is going well. Here are some scenes from it:
