Fluke and Firecrackers

Just a quickie (sort of) report after a busy weekend.  Not much in shop news to report but I am sure there will be new announcements after we all recover from the holiday weekend.

As far as fishing goes, if you really want to catch a fish, you should go try for fluke.  Here are some of the catches from over the weekend.

Ed Zak reported lights out fluke fishing out in the surf on IBSP. He threw back multiple keepers, bringing home two for the table up to 19 inches.

The beach isn’t the only place giving up fluke.  Dan took the shine off of his new Grumpys Custom Black Hole 701L rod with this nice fluke caught on a boat in the ocean.  We also have the factory version available in spinning, conventional, and spiral wrapped conventional.

We had another new rod doing work on its first outing.  Anthony Brattole took this nice 21.5 inch, 3.3 pound fluke out of the surf using his new Tsunami Carbon Shield rod.  It fell for Pink Shine Gulp!

Dominic Cataoine came in with a couple nice fluke from IBSP that pulled the scale down to 2.1 pounds.  They fell for an S&S bucktail and Gulp!

And proving the ocean isn’t the only place giving up nice fluke, @shorekayakfishing brought in this 6.25 pound, 26.5 inch fluke that fell for an S&S bucktail and Berkeley Gulp!.  This fish was caught, well, it wasn’t in the ocean.  If you want to catch one like it, look him up on Instagram and book a guided kayak fishing trip with him.

Even some of the guys who work in the shop got in on the good fluke fishing.   Ray and Sean did a trip out to the local snaggy spots off the beach and were rewarded with some nice fluke.  They both fell for S&S Bucktails Fluke Nukem jigs and Gulp!

Fluke weren’t the only thing on the menu.  Remember @skizzo.195 with the cobia last week?  Well, he landed another rarity, a striped bass in the middle of the day, during the summer.  We have been hearing about other bass at night, mostly on bait like clams or bunker.

And finally, the crabbing has been great.  Madilyn stopped in to show off a half bushel she and her Dad got in short order at one of the local docks using Grumpy Bunker.  Dad is a good cook, and the crab cakes he made with these were delicious (he dropped some off at the shop to some thankful employees).

The 4th of July might be Ray’s favorite holiday.  He enjoys it so much he dresses up for it.  He is living his best life…
