Happy Independence Day
But first, shop news…
The Dreadnought is here. Grumpys Tackle new inshore series spinning rod is now available. The Dreadnought is a 7 foot, medium heavy spinning rod built on a carbon/glass composite blank. It can throw ½ to 1 ½ o lures and is rated for 10 to 20 lb test line. Designed by Bob Hryszko (the guy who builds all of our custom rods for those not paying attention), this rod is beautiful. Using Fuji BC Gray stainless K guides and a Fuji reel seat, green accent trim bands and black and green guide wraps, make this rod a real looker. But what makes it a very striking looking rod is the blank color, a dark black with a silver flake. You have to see it. This rod isn’t just a pretty face, however. It was designed by Bob for snap jigging fluke, jigging tog, tossing soft plastics in the backwaters for stripers, weakfish, blues, snook, redfish, seatrout and more. This also feels like a great rod for slinging epoxy jigs to false albacore or Atlantic bonito from a boat. This will be your new favorite rod.
Are you tired of your sunglasses fogging up in the heat? Do you wish there was an easy way to clean them that also will work as an anti-fog? We now have Cat Crap Lens Cleaner and Anti-fog Treatment products. In either a paste or a spray, apply to your glasses (or snow goggles or face shields) and then buff off with a microfiber cloth. It’s that simple.
We are running an Online Only sale. Currently Kalin's Jig Heads are 30% off. These are great jig heads for this time of year, especially for fishing soft plastic lures for fluke, weakfish, and smaller back bay striped bass. Discounts will be applied automatically at checkout.
The fishing off the beach remains good, with fluke still being the main fish in the wash. Bucktails and scented soft baits are what you will want to catch them.
In the bay, spot are still the most common fish that is biting. Boats drifting for fluke are also doing well. The new species in the bay this week are Atlantic croakers. They are a similar color to the spot, but they lack the actual spot on their side and their bodies are not as broad. They also make a heck of a croaking racket when they are landed.
Here is a notable catch from the past few days:
