Happy Thanksgiving

What Ray is trying to say is we here at Grumpys wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving.

For Thanksgiving Day, we will be open from 4:30 am to 11:00 am.  We will return to our normal hours of 4:30 am to 8:00 pm on Friday.

Our Black Friday to Cyber Monday sale starts at Midnight on Thanksgiving in our online store, and starts in the shop when we open the next morning.  The sale runs through the end of day on Monday.  We will have many items on sale at 20% off, include the popular Grumpy Sandstorm surf rods.  If you were thinking of picking one of these up, now is the time.  Also 20% off all Gulp! products, all items from S&S Bucktails, and all items of Grumpys Apparel.  For those who are building their own rod, or want a rod built, the Rod Geeks XC blanks are also 20% off this weekend (in store only).  If you are shopping online, use the code “BF2CM” when you check out to get the discounts.

The striped bass fishing in the surf remains good.  Not great, but if you put in your time and give a little effort, you can have a good day (or more specifically, night).  You need to move around until you find them.  Not every stretch of beach has fish.  The bite has been changing in that we are hearing more and more fish being taken on lures.  The hottest lures right now are SP Minnows, Mag Darters and Hyrdo minnows.  The hot colors are Blurple at night and Bone when it starts getting light out.  The best time to go is when the sun is not in the sky.

For the boats, the troll is the way to go unless you are lucky enough to come across an active surface feed.  For the former, mojos and spoons have been working, and chartreuse is the hot color.  For the surface bite, metal lip swimmers and poppers are working.

Our in-house F-troop got into the fish again yesterday.  In the early morning, Virgina Jack got somewhere between 15 and 20 fish, depending on whether you ask him (15) or one of the other F-troopers (17 or 20).  In the evening, they mounted an F-Troop amphibious assault and got into fish despite themselves.  Sergeant Larry (pictured) got this one. No superhero landing pose for him though.

For Thanksgiving morning, Ray is going tog fishing.  He has a time limit to get back for Thanksgiving dinner, and he is already worried he is going to cut it close.  If he is late, his wife is going to cause him physical harm.  All of us in the shop expect Ray to look like this Friday morning…
