Last Report of 2022

This will be our last report of 2022.  It’s been an incredible year with great fishing from the opening day of striped bass in the backwaters, through some good striped bass fishing throughout the spring at various spots, an epic surf fluke bite through the summer and a historic striped bass run through the fall.  We at Grumpys hope you got to experience some, if not all, of this.  Here is to hoping 2023 will be just as good.

We here at Grumpys hope all of you have a safe, healthy and prosperous New year.

And now, shop news…

We restocked the online store and the brick and mortar shop with Evil Lanyards.  If you fish the surf you want one of these to keep your tools attached to your surf belt.  Especially if you have a tendency to drop things.  Once a dropped item hits the surf, it tends to disappear.

We have a sale going on in the brick and mortar shop.  All ChatterLure Splash Bars, Side Trackers, and Chatter Chains are 25% off.  Mention you saw it on the fishing report to get the discount. This sale will run while current supplies last!

The fishing for the end of the year has been basically what you expect for this time of year.  The little schoolies can be found in the surf right now, and they are happily eating small lures thrown at them.  Items like the 3” NLBN shads, the small Tsunami Holographic shads, the small Storm Shads, the little Vudu shads, and the Kettle Creek shads.  So yeah, shads.  But not just shads, they will also take the small Rapala X-Raps, and small jigs.  These fish aren’t big, but if you scale down your tackle they can be a lot of fun.  Rods like the ODM D.N.A. 7’6” Back Bay, ODM Evolution 8 footer or Tsunami Airwave Elite Light surf rods in 7’6” or 8’ version will all throw the small stuff very well.

There is also a good bite in the back bay waters (where there is open water).  We are not going to be saying any more about it because the spots that are producing are very crowded, and there are only two more days to fish there before the back bay striped bass season closes down.  We have been hearing the CPOs are already prepared to deal with anyone fishing in the closed season, and for what it is worth, some of these guys are fishermen themselves, and they know the difference between bass lures and perch rigs, so the “I’m fishing for white perch” excuse isn’t going to fly…

We are not going to pick on Ray for this report.  Well, at least we are not going to pick on Ray with something new (even though he did give us some ammo earlier by saying he hired Scott for his looks and not his professionalism, but we are just gonna let that one go..).  Instead, since this is the time of year you get undated with “Year In Review” stuff, why not one more?  A year in review of Ray…
