Leprechaun Gold and a Celebrity Weigh In

Some big product news for those of you looking for Shimano reels, which have been harder to find than a leprechaun’s gold.  (And no, while he might be the right size, catching Connor back in the rod building area will not allow you to force him to show you where he hid his pot of gold, or any Shimano reels. Trust us, we tried already.)  We just received a small shipment of Shimano Twin Power XGFD reels.  The shipment contained 3000 and 5000 sized reels, to go along with the couple of 4000 size we have in stock.  We waited a long time for these reels to come in, and we don’t foresee them sticking around long, so if you are contemplating getting a Twin Power, do not contemplate too long, or you might have to chase leprechauns to get one…

We also received a number of boxes of S&S Bucktails product, including the new Fluke Nukem jigs. Feedback on these new jigs has been fantastic.  Exclusive to Grumpys, pick some up for your next fluke trip.

The bass fishing off the beach remains good, though the south winds we had yesterday slowed it down a little.  Bait, both bunker and salted clams, are still your best bet.

Bluefish are being caught regularly in the two inlets closest to the shop.  Nothing huge, but a 2 to 4 pound bluefish puts up a nice fight, never gives up, and on the right sized tackle (like one of those Shimano Twin Power reels on an ODM D.N.A. 7’6” Back bay rod) they put up one heck of a fight.  Just keep your fingers away from their mouth…

We had a local celebrity make an appearance yesterday, and he brought a friend with him for a photo op.  John Hudler, i.e. Mr Scabelly himself, weighed in a nice 3 pound fluke he caught in the surf on Island Beach State Park.   He said it fell for Gulp!, but he did not say if he put the gulp on one of his gliders or not…

Fluke fishing also remains good in the bay, with the usual spots giving up fish to jigs and Gulp! combos.

The Battle of the Bulge Fluke Challenge rematch has been further delayed.  We are blaming Scott again.  Ray says it is a desperate attempt by Scott to keep his cardboard crown. When he have a confirmed date we will be sure to let everyone know.

Between this delay and the difficulties of getting Shimano product in, Ray is unhappy…
