First, shop news.

We have continued to add filet knives and related gear to the website.  Here is what is now available online:

Dexter Basic Knives are a line of reasonable priced knives with Dexter Quality. This lineup includes knives for filleting and chunking bait.

When comfort Is a priority, reach for Dexter Sofgrip knives.  We have a fillet knife and bait chunking knife available.

The Dexter Val-U™ Boning Knife offers sharp, durable edges at an even sharper price.

You don’t want to damage your nice new fillet knife by tossing it into a box or drawer unprotected.  Get a Dexter Edge Guard to keep your knife in pristine condition.

Not all good fillet knives are made by Dexter.  Danco makes a nice 9” boning knife perfect for filleting fish.  And being part of the Eco1 series, it is made with a recycled plastic handle and sheath.

Danco also has a knife/plier combo in the Eco1 series.  The 6.5 inch aluminum pliers will help unhook your fish while the  7” Fillet knife will make quick work of them on the fillet table.

Danco makes another plier/filet knife combo, this one from their sports line.

You are going to need a way to keep your knives sharp.  The AccuSharp Knife and Tool Sharpener is the number one rated, and best-reviewed sharpener on the market.

If you always fillet your fish in the same spot, and don’t want to worry about bringing out a separate sharpener, the AccuSharp SturdyMount Knife Sharpener mounts right to your fillet table, so it will always be handy for a quick blade honing.

Hurricane Tackle’s Knife Sharpener is a nice compact sharpener you can take with you on the beach or boat so you can keep a good edge on your fillet and bait knives.

But what if you only need an inexpensive bait knife for chunking up baits on the beach or the boat?  We have you covered.  Check out the South Bend Stainless Steel Bait Knife.

The local surf fishing remains good if you are looking for fluke.  The average size of the fish has gone down since the season opened, but the catch numbers have remained consistent, if not gone up a little.  So, to get keepers off the surf, you will need to weed through a lot of shorts now, but the keepers are there.  Bucktails and flavored soft baits are working for them.

Anglers fishing chunk baits at night should keep a close eye on their rods.  We have been hearing that there are some toothy critters around and the possibility of your rod disappearing is pretty good.

Here are some notable catches:

Our cover photo{  Shell E Caris had them good in the surf.  Here’s a double header.

As iCAST is winding down, we are wondering how Scott is doing down there.  Hopefully he is fine.
