Ocean Bass, Bay Bass, and...

But first shop news…

We just got in a new line of surf rods from Tsunami Tackle and they are sweet.  Part of the Airwave line, the new Tsunami Airwave Light Surf rods come in 4 sizes.  They are designed to fish light lines with light lures from shore.  They will make a perfect springtime and late fall/early winter striped bass rod, and an exceptional summer fluke rod for the surf fisherman.  Come in and check them out, or just grab one from our online shop.  We’ll send it to you.

We also have some other good (or bad, depending on your point of view) shop news.  Sheldon is back.  The other good (or bad, depending on your point of view) news is that you won’t be seeing him much in the shop.  He has rejoined the team to assist in the ever-growing online store.  Those of you who have ordered from us and are used to seeing a pleasant handwritten message (yeah, that scribble on your packing slip is a message) from John might now start seeing some more weird messages from Sheldon.  There will be no improvement in the handwriting though…

As far as the fishing goes, the oceanside reports are improving.  Bait such as clams or bunker are still the main choice here, but each day we hear more and more reports from the lure tossers.  Swim shads have been the hot lure, with Kettle Creek Shads, Tsunami Holographic Swim Shads, Storm Wildeye Swim Shads and Vudu shads all producing.

The bay is still producing, but we are hearing less reports from back there.  Not sure if it is because the fish or the fishermen moved out front.  Maybe both?  Swim shads like those listed before have been working, plus Vudu Shrimp, Rapala X-Raps, SP Minnows, and Nomad Shikari Jerkbaits

Here are some notable catches.

@alessandroimperiale sent this photo in of a bass he caught off the surf on clams.

Our fist weigh in for a striped bass caught on a lure from the surf:  John Speiser with a 30” 9.30lb specimen on a Tsunami Holographic Swim Shad from Island Beach State Park.

Since Sheldon is back, we’ll give poor old Ray a break for this report. Here is Sheldon in his new capacity at Grumpys.  Apologies in advance for the nightmares..
