Season of the Flatfish

But first, shop news…

Our biggest news is online. We now offer Free Shipping for all orders of $100 or more. There are some exceptions for large or odd sized items. If your order qualifies (ie it is over $100 total and does not contain an item that disqualifies it), you will have a shipping option called “Economy” that will list as free. Choose that and we will ship it to you for free. Simple, right?  If you have any questions, you can check the details here.

The Bait Lockers have been selling like absolute crazy. These containers are fantastic for holding Gulp!. As many of you know, even a waterproof container will leak with the Gulp! liquid. Whatever that stuff is, it defeats “waterproof” containers regularly. The Bait Lockers don’t leak.

We were informed this morning that local fisherman Al Procida passed away over the weekend.  We at Grumpys extend our sincerest condolences to his family, friends, and loved ones.

The fishing has remained a steady good if you are looking for fluke. We had reports from the surf and boats, both in the bay and on the ocean. Bucktails and Gulp! remain your best shot at landing them regardless of how you are getting to your fishing spot.

Bluefish have popped up here and there in the surf. They aren’t large, but when they show up they are fun. Basically “tailor sized” bluefish of a pound or three. Metals have been working for lures, while mullet on a mullet rig for those who want to use bait.

Here are some notable catches:

Jerry Capolla with a 20 inch, 2.8 pound fluke caught off the surf on Gulp!

Bryan with some nice surf fluke caught Saturday morning! Biggest was 3.3 pounds caught on Gulp!

Christian with a nice 2.8 pound triggerfish caught on white Gulp!

Tracy C with a 2.6 pound, 19 inch fluke caught in the bay using Gulp!

Phil Lagrossa with a boat caught 23.5 inch, 5.7 pound fluke.

Ray and his fishing crew (which includes our very own Sean plus some members of S&S Bucktails) fished the JCSA Fluke tournament over the weekend. They placed 3rd and 5th for the largest fish and won the 3 fish Calcutta. He is not letting it go to his head though…
