Surf Still Producing And Some Exciting New Stuff

As usual, shop news first…

We just received a big order of Salty C’s Custom Wooden plugs.  That order restocked the Donny Plugs and Peanuts, but also added 4 new models.  They are Jointed Donnys, 4.5 Inch Swimmers, Polaris Poppers and Pencil Poppers.  All plugs are through wired and sealed.  We got in just two simple fish catching colors.  Get them while they last,

We reloaded on The Jigbox jig storage boxes, both the Type 1 for fluke and bass bucktails and the Type 2 for blackfish and sheepshead jigs.  We also received a Type 3, which is a hybrid.  It has one hook holder block from a Type 1, and a block from Type 2, so it will hold both jig types.  Perfect for the days you want to travel light but have options open to you.

We have a new Grumpys Tackle item for you.  We now have EVA foam adhesive fish rulers.  Attach one to your cooler, tailgate, boat, dock, or anywhere you will need to get a quick measurement.  Since they are non skid, you can stick them down to the deck of you boat without worrying about introducing a “slick spot” for you or your crew to slip on.

The surf fishing still remains good.  The drum seem to have vacated the premises, but they have been replaced by some nice sized striped bass.  They are taking clams, and some are being taken in low light conditions on artificials.

The blues are still in the surf as well.  Mullet or cut bunker are taking them for those fishing bait, while poppers are working for the anglers throwing artificials.

The fluke are also in the surf, falling for bucktails and Gulp!.  We will likely be reporting this for the rest of the summer…

In the bay, boats drifting the channels have been picking up fluke.  We have heard rumors that the fluke being caught back there are spitting up small black drum.  That may explain why the drum were in the bay this spring.

Here are some notable recent catches:

Our cover photo: Lou DeFonteny with the biggest fluke of the season off the surf so far.  22 inches, 4.2 lbs on Gulp!

Bill Montes had a good Tuesday morning! Releasing two overs on fresh clams.

Wayne Kuehler with a nice bluefish on Tuesday.

Chris with an over he caught on FRESH Grumpy Clams.

On Wednesday, one of our very good customers, jerry, brought in lunch for the crew.  Sausage and peppers on some nice sesame seed rolls.  There is a reason this crew is not skinny, and while we cannot blame Jerry, he didn’t help.  We all ate a lot.  None more than Ray, however.  He put down more sausage sandwiches than seemed humanly possible.  Well, I guess later he began to regret his Joey Chestnut impression, because the following day, he called in sick.  He claims allergies, which, yeah, OK, most people would be allergic to seven sausage sandwiches…
