T Minus 15 days…

We are just over two weeks out from the opening of the bay for a couple of currently prohibited species.  Winter flounder and striped bass opens on March 1st.  We are already gearing up and getting ready to stock worms for winter flounder (and striped bass).  We have flounder rigs and sinkers (in store) ready to go.

For striped bass, are you ready for the opener?  The fish are already here.  A few anglers found out the hard, and expensive, way.  Needless to say, with the striped bass already here the conservation officers are writing tickets.  We heard $100 per fish, which doesn’t seem worth it.  Especially since the "I'm fishing for perch" excuse doesn't seem to fly after you catch five stripers (ie $500 worth).  So for the next two weeks, we suggest you stock up on what you need for opening day.  You've made it this far...

The hot lure last year was Kettle Creek shads.  We restocked the online store on some of the more popular colors, plus the brick and mortar store is well stocked.  You are going to need jig heads for them, and we have both the S&S Bullet heads and the various Kalins jig heads available.

We also stocked up on the small Tsunami shads and Storm shads, which ran a very close second to the Kettle Creeks last season.

We have added a new product which a couple of our employees and trusted anglers used last year.  The Vudu Shrimp, which is a very popular lure in states to our south for species such as seatrout, redfish, and snook, is also very appealing to striped bass and fluke.  We suspect weakfish will love them too but no one found any weakfish to test them on.  A painfully slow retrieve and occasional twitch worked best.  We only have a limited amount in a couple of colors.  But if these go quick, Ray will order more.

Speaking of new items, we have a few new ones from Penn reels for you.

We have added both the Penn Slammer IV and Penn Slammer IV DX (pictured) reels to the lineup.  Available both in store and online.

We also added the line of Penn low profile baitcast reels to the online store.  We have a limited amount of both the Penn Squall Low Profile Reel and Penn Fathom Low Profile reel, but we will add stock as we get it in.

Congratulations to the LA Rams on their Superbowl win.  This officially means Ray has slipped into his “post football season” depression.  He will be OK by September when pre-season games start back up…
