The Inshore Bite Heats Up

But first, shop news…

As promised in a previous report, we received more Yo-Zuri Squid Jigs.  We now have Luminous Orange and Luminous Pink Purple to go along with the Luminous Pink.  The anglers fishing for the inshore bluefin tuna have been coveting squid jigs, as live squid have proven to be the best way to get a bluefin to bite.  It’s also handy to have squid jigs on board because everything eats squid.  Jigging up fresh squid will improve your fluke and black sea bass catches.

For fishing news, about the biggest story now is the bluefin tuna bite going on just off the coast.  Sometimes they are being caught within site of land.  While jigs are working, the best bet to get a tuna bite is to fish a live squid on a circle hook with fluorocarbon leader.  And to get a live squid you’ll need a squid jig. The amount of squid approximately 10 miles offshore is impressive.

But most of you are looking for a surf fishing report. Not much has changed there.  The fluke are still hitting Gulp! fished on bucktails in the surf.  There are still some smaller bluefish around too.  The cow nose rays are swimming through the surf, so be careful unless you really want to tangle for one of those for an hour.

In the back bay, there are still spot and blowfish being caught around the local docks.  Our own rod building apprentice, Connor, recommends putting small pieces of FishBites on a Sabiki rig to get the spot.  Also, on the backside of the full moon the crabbing has improved again.

The fluke fishing is pretty good on the nearshore reefs and wrecks.  So much so, that the crew of the Outta Line with Team Grumpys Tackle won the Leonardo Fluke Masters this past weekend with 5 fish bag of 29.1 lbs.  Congratulations guys!

Here are some notable recent catches:

Bill with a beautiful 4.20lb Fluke from the beach.

John Henson with a 4.25lb surf fluke on Gulp!

Here’s our very own human(-ish) venus flytrap Scott with a 24 inch 5.5 pound fluke caught on an 8” Gulp! grub

Our online sales guy John went out with his brother and used Yo-Zuri Squid Jigs and Squid Leaders to get a few live squid, which they then turned into this 50 inch bluefin tuna.

After the Fluke Masters win, there was some pretty hard partying being done by some of the Outta Line crew.  Ray says he was fine…
