Typical Summer Report

Typical Summer Report

First, shop news…

We have been a Dexter Russel dealer for as long as we can remember.  However, until now, we haven’t made fillet knives available online.  We have now added a few nice options from Dexter, and will be adding more in the coming weeks.  Here is what we have so far:

The Dexter Traditional Fillet knife is the classic fillet knife.  Perfect for all your filleting needs, everyone should have one of these. The wood handle makes for a classic look and a good grip.

The Dexter V-LO® Fillet Knife has a high quality DEXSTEEL™ blade and a comfortable, secure Santoprene and polypropylene handle.  This handle combines comfort and grip for slippery situations.

If you want a truly custom grip, look at the Dexter UR-Cut® Fillet Knife.  The customizable orange handle will make this a fillet knife just for your grip.  Coupled with a DEXSTEEL™ blade and it will easily become your favorite knife.

One of the most popular fillet knives we sell is the Dexter Sani-Safe® Fillet knife.  The well-known white Sani-Safe® Ecogrip® handle can be seen on charter and party boats, fish markets and restaurants everywhere.  You cannot go wrong with one of these.

The fishing has definitely moved into a summer mode.  In the surf, fluke is the name of the game  They are taking bucktails with flavored soft plastics.  You will need to weed through a lot of shorts to get some keepers, but the keepers are there.

If you are fishing chunk baits like bunker or mackerel in the surf, keep an eye on your rod, especially at night, as there are some large toothy critters around.

In the bay, spot are still around and taking FishBites.  There are also some fluke behind the local inlets.

The big news for the bay are the crabs.  We have been getting reports of plenty of decent sized crabs with a few around pushing 7 inches point to point.

Some notable recent catches

Our Cover Photo:  Dan Douglas with a beautiful shore caught 7.2 pound fluke.

Bev weighed in a beautiful 4.25 pound fluke from the surf on Gulp!

“Hey Cool” Dom with a 3.4 pound fluke from the surf.

From Vinny’s dad:  “Kid crushed it out there! Only kept the big ones—brought home 18 keepers, all 5.5” and up. The bay is loaded with crabs right now. Bite was on fire toward the end, but we only kept what we needed for crab cakes.”

Scott is still down in Florida, and the adventures continue.  Right now, he is trying to work his way over to iCAST.  He asked for some help from the locals, but I don’t know how helpful these locals will be.
