In building the Duck bait, Madd Mantis decided to think upside down. Most lures work from the surface down. They use lure floatation to give resistance to help the lure swim. They wanted to make a bait that works from the bottom to the Surface. How many times was the wind in your face, and you threw a swimmer, only to have the bait land at your feet? Problem solved: the Duck gets the job done when the weather is at its worst.

Features:

  • The Duck is injection molded in a proprietary ABS plastic, making it as strong and resilient as the bumper of your car.
  • The bait’s two chambers are fused together using a sonic welding technology. This technology melts the two sides together using hypersonic vibrations, creating a finished product that is super strong and extremely watertight.
  • The through wire system is thoughtfully contained in a closed channel running down the belly of the bait, reducing the chance of sea water from getting inside the bait.
  • The still posture of the bait in the water has this bait sinking tail-down on a backward angle: use this to your advantage when fish follow but don’t take. We incorporated a low-tone rattle that drives fish out of their minds with anger.
  • Internal X ribs give the external appearance of scales, while also serving to hide the cross braces that prevent the bait from crushing under extreme pressures.
  • An added tail feather helps exaggerate the swim without reducing casting distance.
  • All Madd Mantis Ducks come rigged with treble hooks.
Model Size (Length/Weight) Hooks

Techniques:

The Duck is a very unusual Swim Bait. To work the bait best, we suggest you start with a slow reel and watch with a smile as the bait swims. No crazy rod motion, no bouncing rhythm – just cast and reel.

As you get familiar with the bait, add some rod taps and some pauses to give you a unique swim affect. Fish it in the wind and maximize your fishing distance. Fish it in shallow flats where fish are spooky and you can’t get close to them, so you take advantage of how long it casts. Fish it from the shore where there is a deep drop-off moving to a higher flat, and the bait’s natural swim will have it move up from deep to shallow naturally. Fish it in current, just holding contact with the bait, and feel as the bait swims on its own as it sweeps with the current.
