Striped Bass, Fluke and Drum March On

Striped Bass, Fluke and Drum March On

First, shop news.

Have you been nursing an old pair of waders along waiting for new ones to be available?  Well, now you can get rid of those waders that are mostly Aquaseal and Tear Aid patches.  We have restocked on Frogg Togg Hellbender Pro Bootfoot waders, available both in store and online.

The fishing in the surf has been very good.  If you fish clams you have equally good chances at a striped bass or a black drum, and right now the specimens for both are on the larger side.  The fluke fishing in the surf is very good too, with some nice flatties falling for bucktails and Gulp!  The bluefish in the surf are mostly taking cut bunker and/or mullet, but some are taking poppers or plastic swimmers.

In the bay, the spot fishing and crabbing is good locally.  There are also some bluefish roaming around, falling for topwater spooks.  Also, boats drifting the usual hotspots are getting some nice fluke mixed in with the usual shorts.

Some recent notable catches:

Our cover shot:  Saltwater Underground’s Host Nick Honachefsky picked up some Grumpy clams and found bass.

Some nice Fluke in the Surf! Eric with a 3.60 lb Surf Fluke on Gulp!

This is a big surf fluke and also her first one. Here’s Kat with a beautiful 5.5lb fluke. Nice fish!

Erin Saxe brought the beat in with this drum

Jim with a beautiful 23.5” 4.45lb fluke from the IBSP surf on Gulp! Lots of nice fluke in the surf right now

Anthony with a beautiful 4.75lb fluke from the surf on Gulp! and bucktails.

Boom boom boom boom! @kurtiswalrath found some drum

Another question we all did not need to have answered, what does Ray look like when he opens a box of waders, from the point of view of the waders?
