Some very sad news

Some very sad news

We unfortunately have to start our report with some terrible news.

When you hear something like "He was a legend" or  "A true innovator" it's generally just hyperbole in most cases. With Bob Popovics, it was generally an understatement. He truly revolutionized saltwater fly fishing, and accomplished everything that could be done with a rod and reel. He loved teaching, and was one of the kindest, most genuine people you could meet. Sadly, he passed away on November 1st after a tragic accident and will be greatly missed, and the world is darker with his absence.

Bob's viewing will be held on Veteran's Day, Nov 11, at Timothy Ryan Home for Funerals on St. Catherine's Blvd in Toms River, NJ from 3pm-7pm. Roman Catholic Church service will be held at St. Catharine's Church in Seaside Park, NJ on Nov 12 at 10am, followed by a procession to The Brigadier General William C Doyle Memorial Cemetery with Honor Guard service at 12:30pm sharp.
The Bob Popovics Memorial Scholarship Foundation account will be set up tomorrow, Nov 5. Details for donations in lieu of flowers to follow.

For everyone who is waiting on the blitzes, they're showing up locally very sporadically. For everyone else, the fishing has been solid if you put your time in. We still have a lot of sand eels locally, and adult and peanut bunker are starting to push in. It would be wise to keep a selection of Sand Eel items such as Avas and Teasers, Bill Hurleys, and Needlefish in your bag in addition to Peanut Bunker imitations like the Tsunami Twitch Baits, small poppers such as the Topknock Pencil, and Swim Shads. In order to make you carry as much gear as possible, carry a legal snag rig, a swimmer and a bigger pencil as well! If you're looking for an all in one kit, the Yo Zuri Striped bass kit is what you need!

The bluefin have been on the beach, and stacked at the ridge, so if you can get out there, get out there! Ballyhoo, side trackers, and NLBN's seem to be the ticket.

The nearshore Sea Bass seems to be pushing more towards inshore, but there still some decent fish around for those working for them. Clams and Jigs are both working.

Now for some our more recent catches!
