Look Who Showed Up!

But first, yeah, yeah, yeah, shop news…

We have squid jigs!  And Squid Leader!  Both from Yo-Zuri.  About the worst kept secret right now is the buefin tuna bite going on off the NJ coast on live squid.  These jigs are the best way to get them.  We got a small shipment in recently and are waiting for a larger shipment coming soon, so if you need them now, don’t hesitate.

As far as the fishing goes, yeah, there is the tuna.  Bluefin are in close (as far as tuna go) and the Yellowfin fishing further offshore has picked up again.  But tuna isn’t really our shop’s forte (even though most of us here do it).

The surf fishing has some new players in the game.  The fluke and small blues are still around, but there are now Spanish Mackerel in reach of the surfcasters.  They are not thick yet, but they have arrived.  Get your epoxy jigs ready.

The boats going out the nearshore reefs and wrecks have been putting together respectable catches of fluke. Bucktails and Gulp! are the answer here…

The back bay is still producing spot, blowfish and crabs on the local piers.

Some recent notable catches:

Our cover shot is from East Coast Bites who got into the Spanish Mackerel.

Houndfish on SP Minnow

Hunter Alessi with a houndfish that took an SP Minnow.

Surf caught Spanish Mackerel

Anthony Rocco found the Spanish in the surf.  Get your epoxy jigs ready.

Boat Caught Fluke

BPM Fishing with a nice ocean fluke.

Travis Sabin with a surf caught fluke.

Ray is already looking forward to Halloween.  His original plan was to go as a pirate.  He wanted to wear a dashing hat and a frilly white shirt.  And he was really looking forward to the eye patch.  It was his ultimate dream.  But with all the squid being caught off the coast, Ray is beginning to have second thoughts.  He may want to try a squid costume.  We think he should do both…
