Starting to Act Like Summer...

But first, shop news.

We have added products from Inno Racks.  We have two sizes of the classic ski rack, one of the more popular ways to carry rods on top of cars.  But we also have a better, more secure way.  Inno Racks has a lockable cartop rod box that extends to hold rods up to 9 feet long.  No more rock damage, no more worries about theft.  Not looking for a rooftop rod carrying option?  Inno has an interior rod carrying solution that will work for you with three different racks to choose from.  These racks hold your rods inside your SUV up along the roof.  They are a far cry from the homemade jobs with shower curtain torsion bars (that always fail at the most inconvenient time), or the rod carriers just made of nylon straps that slam your rods into your roof when you go over bumps.  They are worth checking out.  Right now, we have them available only in-store and in very limited quantities.  We will have them available online shortly.

We have restocked on Van Staal Hoodies, particularly the smaller sizes, which have been very popular.  We also added a new Van Staal item, a “No Limitations” decal.  This 5” x 2” decal will be perfect for coolers, coffee mugs, car windows, or wherever you want to display your Van Staal Pride.

Fishing locally is starting to slip into summer mode.  The water in the surf is warming, but there are still bass around.  Clams are still taking their fair share of fish, but the bass are starting to concentrate on a new bait.  The older gatekeepers are not going to like hearing this, but sand crabs (or sand bugs, or mole crabs, or whatever else you would like to call them) are starting to produce.  Don’t waste your time digging this free bait by hand.  We have sand flea rakes in stock in the store.

The warming water is also getting the fluke active in the surf.  Guess what?  They like sand crabs too.  They also readily fall for bucktails and Gulp!

The boats running out to the local reefs, rockpiles and wrecks are starting to find cooperative fluke.  Again, bucktails and Gulp! for these.

Some notable catches:

Legendary Larry on the Fluke this morning! Gulp and Jigs off the surf.

And for our cover shot is a beautiful surf flattie caught by Gerry. it went 23.5 inches and 4.6 pounds. Caught from the IBSP Surf on Gulp! Check out Shel E Caris doing his best Dale Earnhardt impersonation...

Ray has an imminent camping trip.  He’s already partially checked out.  If you are looking for him next week, well, he will be difficult to find…
