Happy Valentine's Day , and Your Two Week Warning

Valentines Day is over, so you can now concentrate on your true passion.  It is only two weeks until the back bays open for striped bass in New Jersey.  It’s also opening day of winter flounder season here.  And after that, all the other local fish will be here before you know it.  Now is the time to prepare.

We are here to help you prepare.  We have new stuff coming in every week.  We have restocked on ODM DNA rods, including the very popular 9 foot model, which is selling quickly.  For the back bay striped bass, you may want to consider the 7’6” Back Bay DNA or 8’ DNA rod.  Both are great for throwing the  lightweight lures the early season bass love.

While on the subject of ODM, we have some new items coming from them in April.  Very Good Stuff.  Stay tuned 😊.

We have also restocked on reels, including Van Staal and Quantum Accurists (It’s never too early to prepare for fluke season…).

We received a new shipment of T-Hex lures from A-OK Tackle, including a new color in the 2 oz model.  Also, new to Grumpys Tackle are Charlie Graves Tins from West End Fishing Tackle.  These classic lures are responsible for fooling an unbelievable number of striped bass and bluefish.

We also got in a big shipment of waders from Frogg Toggs.  We have Hellbender, Hellbender Stout and Rana II PVC, all bootfoot.  They are only available in-store.

Frank is still up to his armpits in finished reels.  Partly because he is powering through all the reels that are in his queue to fix.  And partly because we need those who have completed reels to come pick them up.  Bob is also running out of places to hang completed rod repairs.  So, if you have a rod or reel here, and you received a call that it is fixed, please come pick it up.

Ray is thinking about another big sale.  Probably in March.  We'll keep you posted.

So you want a fishing report?  Really?  In this weather?  OK.  Speaking of the weather, SOMEONE here at Grumpys Tackle bought a new truck a couple weeks ago.  It seems like it has been snowing ever since.  I am not saying this is causation, but it is a curious coincidence.   As for the fishing, I don’t think anyone has been fishing in this weather.  If they have, they haven’t confessed to it.  I suspect if you are really longing to wet a line you can try for white perch in some of the local rivers leading into Barnegat Bay.  Little pieces of clam, sea worms, or fish bites will work for those.

And, since it is Valentine’s Day as of the writing of this report, I would be remiss not to share Ray’s Valentine’s Day gift to his wife.  He went to one of those places that take glamorous pictures of you.  The picture above, in a nice frame, is what he is giving to his lovely wife.  Did it work?  It will be several months before we know for sure…

Yeah, I don’t know where he got the hair either…
