Still Striped Bass, Fluke And Drum

Still Striped Bass, Fluke And Drum

First, shop news.

We added a new section to the website, recipes.  We have an expert chef here at Grumpys.  Well, former expert chef, as he claims he is retired from that business.  But anyway, Scott has the skills to make food taste good, and he is sharing those skills with all of us.  His first recipe, Shark Bites with Mango Salsa is posted on our new Recipes Page.

We have in some new stuff for the fluke fisherman.  We added Baitfuel GO2 Grubs to both the store and website.  As an alternative to Gulp!, these are worth a try.  They are loaded with Amrican Tackle’s patented Baitfuel Fast X65 Formula, a proven fish attractor.

We also have Baitfuel’s Fast X65 Formula in a stick.  Why a stick?  It makes it easy to apply to a hard lure like a plastic swimmer, needlefish, metal, and any other hard lure.

And, to round out the Baitfuel trifecta, we have their formula in a gel.  This can be applied to soft plastic lures, within the fibers of a bucktail, or even added to bags of soft lures to juice them up.

We have added a line of rods from Century.  Come check out The Demon Spinning Rods.  These rods are specially designed for presenting light offerings and finesse fishing.

The fishing in the area remains similar as the last report.  The drum and bass are still taking clams in the surf, though there seems to be a few less bass now.  However, the ones that have moved in are, on average, larger than the last report.  The fluke fishing in the surf also remains good, with, as usual, bucktails and Gulp! being the prime offering.

In the backwaters we are hearing two good reports.  The bluefish have moved in.  Most are small, around 2 to 4 pounds, but they are hitting poppers and making for fun fishing outings.  The spot are also, in certain areas, being cooperative.  These saltwater panfish can make either a good meal, or a good live bait for something bigger (like striped bass or fluke).

Some notable recent catches:

Tony Lopez has an awesome story to tell! He took home our legendary 7’-10” Grumpy Sandstorm rod we donated after winning the Veterans category at the recent IBSP Governor’s Tournament. Tony was all smiles—and for good reason! He got dinner on it today! Thank you for your service, Tony, and congratulations! Enjoy putting that rod to work!

With Scott creating his recipes and getting his own section on the website, Ray has become a little jealous.  He wants his own section, and is considering a section called “Ray’s Professional and Unconventional Fishing Tips” with the tag line “You would never believe this will work.”  Here is Ray’s first suggestion for a tip.
